Al-Azzawi, M.D., opens his practice on the campus of Good Samaritan Medical Center where he specializes in colorectal cancer and anus, colon and rectum disorders. As a colorectal specialist, Dr. Al-Azzawi specifically concentrates on anal, colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), rectal prolapse, fecal incontinence and benign anorectal diseases (hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and anal fistula). Dr. Al-Azzawi is board-certified with the American Board of Surgery and is also on-staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Dr. Al-Azzawi completed his Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, Florida. Prior to that, he finished his residency and internship in general surgery at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana. While he was a General Surgery Resident at Indiana University in 2009, Dr. Al-Azzawi won the Willis D. Gatch Award from the American College of Surgeons- Indiana Chapter. The Willis D. Gatch Award is given each year to the top-four surgical resident written research papers and oral presentations from Indiana University. Dr. Al-Azzawi attended medical school at the Baghdad University, College of Medicine in Baghdad, Iraq. He is also bilingual in Arabic and English.
Dr. Al-Azzawi is a current member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. His past experience includes nearly a decade of research on benign and malignant gastrointestinal research topics. Since 2009, Dr. Al-Azzawi has shared his research with presentations on the pancreatic cancer, laparoscopic colon and rectal resection, and fecal incontinence. Dr. Al-Azzawi has also co-authored over a dozen research publications since 2006 in several medical and surgical journals on topics ranging from colorectal surgery to gastrointestinal surgery and gallbladder surgery, and pancreatic cancer.
