World renowned spine surgeon with extensive clinical, teaching and research experience joins the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute

West Palm Beach, Fla. June 15, 2020 – Palm Beach Health Network Physician Groups (PBHNPG) announces Harry Shufflebarger, MD, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in pediatric spine surgery, is relocating his practice to the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in West Palm Beach. Dr. Shufflebarger is a national and international leader in pediatric spine care, including congenital scoliosis, early-onset scoliosis, idiopathic scoliosis, neuromuscular scoliosis, kyphosis, postural kyphosis, Scheuermann disease, and other pediatric spine ailments. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Shufflebarger is on-staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

Prior to joining PBHNPG and the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute, Dr. Shufflebarger served as Chief of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, then Director, Division of Spinal Surgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, formally known as Miami Children’s Hospital. Dr. Shufflebarger is currently a distinguished clinical professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Miami School of Medicine, located in Miami, FL. Dr. Shufflebarger was named the President of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) in 1999, a distinction he held after serving several different roles within the organization from 1993-2006. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Scoliosis Research Society in 2016.

Dedicated to clinical research and the improvement of pediatric spinal care through innovation and development, Dr. Shufflebarger was a founding member of the Harms Study Group, a worldwide respected spinal study group, and has served on the executive committee there since 2005. Dr. Shufflebarger’s research has been published in over 20 different medical textbook chapters, in 63 separate scientific papers and an additional 217 scientific papers published by abstract or presentation. Dr. Shufflebarger has taught as a visiting professor in more than 20 countries during over 100 visits to locations around the globe from 1979 to 2019. He’s lectured as a course instructor or chairman at a total of 108 conferences and symposiums spanning 15 U.S. states and 21 countries from 1985 through 2019.

For his education and training, Dr. Shufflebarger graduated medical school and completed his internship, and residency in orthopaedic surgery from Emory University/Emory Affiliated Hospitals located in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Shufflebarger was the leader of a Scoliosis Research Travelling Fellowship in 211.

Dr. Shufflebarger serves as a Medical Advisory Board Member with the National Neurofibromatosis Association and the National Scoliosis Association. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Pediatric Orthopedic Society, American Academy of Pediatrics, Florida Orthopedic Society, Miami Orthopedic Society, Children’s Medical Services, International Spinal Study Group and the American, Florida, Dade Medical Societies.
