John’s Story
At the young age of 13, John Beers experienced the thrill of singing in front of a crowd of over 2,500 people, and in that moment, he decided what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
Fast forward 50-years, standing on top of the stage looking out at the wide eyes of the crowd John fills people’s ears with music from his voice and piano. Now, both a hobby and a job that he is most passionate about, John became a professional musician because of his love for music. When he started to feeling shortness of breath and fatigue on stage, he knew something was wrong.
When the symptoms worsened, John felt like it was starting to take a toll on his musical career and affecting his ability to perform. John decided he had to seek answers. After evaluation by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Nishant Patel, John discovered he had a damaged aortic valve that needed to be replaced. Although he was apprehensive of undergoing surgery, he knew it was the best thing for him in the long run. Dr. Patel helped ease his fears by taking the time to explain the surgery thoroughly.
“Dr. Patel’s quality as a physician truly is above most other doctors I have met,” John says. “Not only is he conscientious, but proactive and professional as well.”
John underwent surgery at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Dr. Patel and the nurses made him feel as comfortable as possible before he went into surgery. Dr. Patel replaced his aortic valve and John was in the ICU for only a few days before being discharged from the hospital, soon able to enjoy the comforts of his own home.
John feels excellent after his surgery but is still working on his recovery. Along with a goal of fully recovering, he also looks forward to increasing his health physically, with a better daily routine and a healthier lifestyle overall. He is even back to playing the piano and singing in front of an audience regularly.
“I just have to have patience with my recovery, but I feel very blessed that I am now in a good place.”
