Dr. John Ricotta, a highly skilled and experienced vascular surgeon, clinical professor of surgery, joins Prime Vascular Institute

Boca Raton, Fla. – December 21, 2021 – John J. Ricotta, MD, FACS, an internationally renowned vascular surgeon with over four decades of experience providing diagnosis and treatments for vascular disease ailments, and clinical professor at The George Washington University School of Medicine, has joined the Prime Vascular Institute in Boca Raton, led by Dr. Joseph Ricotta, National Medical Director of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy for Tenet Healthcare. Dr. John Ricotta is certified with the American Board of Surgery with Special Competency in Vascular Surgery. For arterial conditions, Dr. Ricotta specializes in carotid artery blockage/stroke prevention, arterial (aortic) aneurysm, peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and leg ulcers. For venous conditions, Dr. Ricotta specializes in varicose veins, reticular veins and venous telangiectasias (spider veins), pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS), venous compressive syndrome, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Dr. Ricotta will see patients at the Prime Vascular Institute office in Boca Raton and is on-staff at West Boca Medical Center and Delray Medical Center.

Prior to joining Prime Vascular Institute, Dr. Ricotta led a successful practice at Capitol Vascular Care and served as clinical professor of surgery at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences located in Washington D.C. Dr. Ricotta is also professor emeritus at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Ricotta’s experience includes serving as chair of surgery at Washington Hospital Center and director of the Regional Vascular Program for MedStar, a healthcare organization operating more than 120 entities, including ten hospitals in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area of the United States. Dr. Ricotta also served as medical director of Livanta BFCC-QIO, a healthcare company focusing on healthcare improvement and innovation.

For his education and training, Dr. Ricotta completed a residency and named chief resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital, located in Baltimore, MD. In addition, Dr. Ricotta completed an instructorship in surgery, internship in general surgery and medical school at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Prior to medical school, Dr. Ricotta graduated from Yale University located in New Haven, CT. During his illustrious medical career, Dr. Ricotta received numerous honors, awards and accolades including Keystone Educator Award, Washington Hospital Center Department of Surgery, Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars, The Contemporary Who’s Who – American Biographical Institute, Who’s Who in American Education, America’s Top Doctors: Castle Connolly Med, Ltd., Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Best Doctors in New York, New York Magazine, The Best Doctors in America: Northeast Region and Honorary Fellowship Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dedicated to the advancement of vascular surgery and medicine, Dr. Ricotta has trained more than 250 surgeons, 40 vascular fellows and 29 research residents during his professorship. In addition, Dr. Ricotta has authored more than 250 articles and book chapters in all areas of vascular disease and has lectured all over the world on all aspects of vascular care.

Dr. Ricotta has professional affiliations as member of the following associations – Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Residency Review Committee for Surgery, director, American Board of Surgery, chairman, Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society, Joint Council Society for Vascular Surgery/ International Society Cardiovascular Surgery, Southern Association of Vascular Surgery and American Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Ricotta is fluent in English, Italian and French. Dr. Ricotta has been practicing medicine since 1973.
