Nationally and Internationally Renowned Expert in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Joins Palm Beach Health Network Physician Groups
Delray Beach, Fla. – November 29, 2016 – Palm Beach Health Network Physician Groups (PBHNPG) is pleased to announce that expert vascular surgeon, Dr. Joseph Ricotta, has joined the PBHNPG multispecialty physician group and is the newest member of the Tenet Florida Cardiovascular Care network. Dr. Joseph Ricotta is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery. He brings years of valuable experience working at the nation’s leading institutions such as Yale, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland Clinic to his role as Regional Medical Director of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. Dr. Ricotta is board-certified in both general and vascular surgery and specializes in endovascular robotic surgery, aortic and peripheral aneurysms, carotid and cerebrovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease, and venous disease. Dr. Ricotta has opened an office in Delray Beach and is on staff at Delray Medical Center.
Prior to joining PBHNPG, he has also served as Associate Professor of University of Georgia School of Medicine, CEO and Medical Director of the Vascular Institute of Atlanta, Chair of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Northside Hospital, Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Clinical Research, Director of Complex Aortic Surgery and Associate Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Emory University, and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Ricotta completed his undergraduate degree at Yale University, received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, completed the Halsted General Surgery Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, was a traveling scholar and Specialist Registrar in Vascular Surgery at Oxford University in England, and completed a Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic followed by an Advanced Endovascular Surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Ricotta has garnered national and international recognition as an innovative pioneer and thought-leader in Vascular Surgery. He was the first surgeon in the Southeast United States, and one of less than 10 surgeons in the world, to perform Endovascular Robotic Surgery post FDA approval. He is the first surgeon in the United States with FDA IDE approval to create and implant custom modified endografts in high-risk patients with complex aortic aneurysms, and was the first in Georgia to perform peripheral drug-coated balloon angioplasty. In addition, he was the first surgeon in the Southeast United States to perform the newly FDA approved VenaSealTM closure procedure, the newest treatment for varicose veins and venous insufficiency.
In addition to providing the entire spectrum of state of the art vascular and endovascular clinical services, Dr. Ricotta has authored over 200 publications, been an investigator in over 60 clinical research trials, and has delivered over 300 lectures on the national and international stage.
He serves as an Editor or on the Editorial Board for several professional medical publications, is the co-Founder and Meeting Chair of the International Aortic Summit, Chair of the Incoming Fellows Program of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and Chair of the Membership Committee in the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society. Throughout his esteemed career, he has served on multiple committees of the Society for Vascular Surgery, and regularly serves on advisory boards or as a consultant to a myriad of industrial corporations.
Dr. Ricotta has received numerous awards and has been repeatedly elected as a U.S. News and World Report “Top Doctor” as well as one of “America’s Best Doctors” by Castle Connolly, awarded to the top 1 percent of doctors in the nation. He has also been chosen as a “Top Surgeon” in the United States on multiple occasions, as one of “America’s Most Honored Professionals”, and has been elected as a Distinguished Fellow by the Society for Vascular Surgery.
With his abundant experience and reputation as one of the best vascular surgeons in the nation, Dr. Ricotta is also dedicated to training and teaching future physicians and vascular surgeons. Through his position as Professor of Surgery at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine of Florida Atlantic University, he is very active in the training of medical students, physician assistant students, surgical residents and fellows. He also leads a variety of training workshops on new and innovative endovascular and surgical techniques for physicians and vascular surgeons from all over the world.
