When to See an Orthopaedic Surgeon?

Patients typically receive referral to an Orthopaedic Surgeon through their primary care physician for treatment of musculoskeletal problems—most commonly broken bones. Some insurance providers allow the patient to self refer in cases of chronic issues like knee or shoulder pain. Our orthopaedic surgeons also see many patients for arthritis treatment and management, and for carpal tunnel or rotator cuff injuries. In addition, they routinely perform arthroscopies—a minimally invasive procedure that explores hip, shoulder, or knee damage. Minor joint problems can be corrected during an arthroscopy, but more serious conditions may require further surgery.
